Google、デジカメ画像管理ソフト会社Picasaを買収

米Googleは13日、デジタル写真管理会社の米Picasaを買収したことを明らかにした。買収金額や詳細は明らかにされていない。

米Picasaは2001年10月に設立、2004年5月にはGoogleと提携、Googleのブログサービスbloggerにて簡単にデジカメ写真を公開できる機能を提供していた。

今回の買収について米Google製品管理担当副社長Jonathan Rosenberg（ジョナサン・ローゼンバーグ）氏は、「Picasaはデジカメ画像の管理及び共有を簡単に可能にしており、世界中の情報を整理し、そこからでもアクセスでき使いやすくするというGoogleのミッションを補完可能な技術だ。Picasaはデジカメ画像管理の分野におけるイノベーターであり、我々はPicasaがGoogleに加わることに大変興奮している」とコメント。
