Microsoft、PCとWebのシームレス検索技術を披露

米MicrosoftはMicrosoft Financial Analyst Meetingにて、同社が開発中のローカルPCとWebを同時に検索できる技術の試作品を披露した。

Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of MSN Information Services and Merchant Platform, showed off a prototype of the new search technology, which he called Local PC File Search, at the meeting in Redmond, Wash. The technology allowed him to search both the Web and all the files on a computer's hard drive, even e-mail files, by keyword. "Local PC File Search"と呼ばれるこの検索技術のプロトタイプは、キーワード検索により、電子メールを含むPC内のあらゆるファイルから同単語を含むものを検索できる。検索が完了した後にはファイルタイプ別に並び替えもできるという。この検索技術がいつ利用できるかは明らかにしなかったものの、「サービス」の１つとして販売されるだろうとコメントしている。

米CNETの記事によると、Windows OS を最新のものにアップデートしなくともソフトウェアをダウンロードすることで利用可能になるとしている。

In an interview, Mehdi said that the technology does not require an upgrade to the Windows operating system, but would require software to be downloaded onto a PC.
