米Amazon.com、書籍の引用回数を表示する「Amazon.com Citations」を追加

米Amazonが書籍が他の書籍でどれだけ引用されているかを表示する「Amazon.com Citations」機能を追加した。

Amazon.comは書籍全文検索「Search Inside the Book」にて書籍をスキャンしている。この際、他の書籍タイトルと合致するフレーズを見つけた場合に引用としてカウント。そのフレーズが記述されたページ数と回数を全て記録してAmazon.comの書籍紹介ページにて表示している。クリックすると引用された該当ページを読むことができる。

ある書籍が２つの書籍を引用していたら、Amazon.comはその本がどの本を引用したかを表示する。一方、ある書籍が２つの書籍に引用されていたら、どの本がその本を引用したかを表示する。

Amazon.comによると、Amazon.com Citationsによってユーザーが興味を持つ書籍と関連した書籍を見つけ出すことができるという。

なお、Amazon.com Citationsは全ての引用情報を表示できるわけではなく、例えば本の著者が引用する際に書籍の名称をカタログ通りに引用していない場合は記録しないとしている。
