Telegraphによると、動画配信のHuluが今年9月にも英国に進出する。英国のローカルパートナー、ITV、Channel 4、BBCからのコンテンツと米国の3000時間におよぶコンテンツを英国でも展開する模様だ。HuluはNews Corp、NBC Universal、Disneyがバックアップするサービス。これまでHuluは米国内限定で動画配信を行っていたが、グローバル市場への展開の第1歩を踏み出す。
BBC、ITV、Channel 4 の3社は昨年、共同でビデオオンデマンドサービスを開発するプロジェクト「Project Kangaroo」を立ち上げようとしていたが、競争委員会（CC）から独占禁止法に抵触するとして閉鎖命令が今年2月に下されていた。
A senior TV advertising executive close to both broadcasters explained: “Hulu is proposing a model that works in the American marketplace – however Channel 4 and ITV will not consent to that. Both parties always retain the commercial rights and sell their own ad inventory.
